National Academy of Medicine
The National Academy of Medicine, formerly known as the Institute of Medicine, is a private, nonprofit institution that provides advice to the nation on improving health. The Institute of Medicine was chartered in 1970 as a component of the National Academy of Sciences, which provides independent, objective, evidence-based advice to policymakers, health professionals, the private sector, and the public. The academy is both an honorific membership and a policy research organization. Its members are elected on the basis of their professional achievement and commitment to service.
